Website Text Shifts While Fonts Load

Reduce distracting changes in headings, buttons, and page spacing as a website finishes loading.

A page can look polished after loading and still feel unstable during the first visit. When text changes size or wraps differently as fonts arrive, buttons and sections may move. Review the loading experience itself rather than judging only the finished screenshot on a fast connection.

Observe What Changes

Record a fresh load and identify whether the movement comes from fonts, images, late content, or a combination. Compare the fallback text with the final typeface. A narrow decorative font and a wide system fallback may produce very different line breaks. Avoid changing spacing rules until you know which resource is causing the movement.

Simplify the Typography System

Use only the font families and weights the design genuinely needs. Choose a practical loading strategy and a fallback with compatible proportions where possible. Keep essential text visible during loading. Image dimensions also need attention, because missing reserved space can move the same heading even when the font itself is behaving correctly.

Test Longer Labels

Review navigation, service buttons, and multi-line headings on mobile and tablet. A label that fits after the custom font loads may wrap beforehand. Check larger text settings and a fresh visit with an empty cache. The right result is a readable, stable page throughout loading, not a brief period of invisible content followed by a perfect final frame.

What to Check

  • Identify the actual source of movement.
  • Reduce unnecessary font variants.
  • Reserve image space.
  • Test long labels during a fresh load.
